Empowering Female Leaders in Media, Technology, and Innovation - Exclusive Interview with Elena Petrova and Ksenia Gutman
At Nem Dubrovnik (June 10-13, 2024) Formatbiz had the pleasure to meet Elena Petrova, Head of Group Content Procurement and Broadcasting in the International Business division of A1 Telekom Austria Group, but in this exclusive interview she talked about her new project HerBizz International along with Ksenia Gutman, Co-Founders of HerBizz International.
What inspired the creation of HerBizz International, and what are its primary goals? Elena: HerBizz International was founded from a shared vision for transforming the female business landscape. Ksenia and I met during our Global Executive MBA studies at the WU Executive Academy in Vienna and realized that we both wanted to create a platform that not only addresses the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles but also empowers them to excel in media, technology, and innovation.

Tell us a bit about your background
The idea to establish an association for women in AI, Web3 and Media began in 2024. At that time, my partner Elena, whom I met during my Global Executive MBA studies, and I had already opened a chapter for Women in Web3 Austria. Our passion and interest in emerging technologies arise from our surroundings and network. Self-education, Blockchain specialization, and AI training followed and were embedded into our free time, in addition to our regular full-time jobs and family commitments.

AI empowerment: elevating career and life with smart tools
AI empowerment: In the fast-paced world of technology and business, AI has emerged as a game-changing force, particularly for professionals juggling multiple responsibilities. For someone like me—balancing the demands of a full-time job, motherhood, and leading a non-profit association for women in AI, Web3, and Media—AI tools have become indispensable allies. These smart technologies are not just changing workplaces globally; they are opening doors to higher earnings for those equipped with AI skills and saving us a lot of time in our daily lives.
The rise of AI in the workplace The adoption of AI in the workplace has seen a remarkable increase in recent years. According to the latest McKinsey Global Survey on AI, 72% of organisations are now using AI, a significant jump from the 50% reported in previous years. Particularly interesting is the breadth of AI applications across business functions. This widespread adoption suggests that AI is no longer confined to specialised departments but is becoming an integral part of diverse business operations.

What do AI, Web3, and Media have in common?
In recent years, the tech sector has undergone seismic shifts and is evolving at a pace that challenges even the most agile minds. Within this change, AI, Web3, and media are not just parallel developments; they are becoming tightly interconnected threads that drive technological and societal shifts. From decentralised finance to advancements in AI, these changes are rewriting the rules and creating unique opportunities across industries.
Yet, one critical element often gets overshadowed in the race for innovation: the importance of a robust, inclusive network that empowers and amplifies underrepresented voices in tech. As Co-Founder of HerBizz International, I have witnessed the transformative impact that a network can bring—not only within tech companies but also in bridging the divide between technology, innovation, and media. These technologies can fuel one another, reshaping industries and empowering communities in ways that feel like glimpses into the future.
